The Planets and their Meanings to Ones Birth Chart and Astrology
In science education, one learns that there are 9 planets that revolve around the sun. People are taught that among these planets,
only one can be inhabited by living things, and that is the Earth. It is also taught that the twin of the Earth is Mars and is also called the Red Planet. Science also teaches us that the Sun provides heat and light to the planets and that the Moon only borrows its light from the Sun. Aside from these, we do not know the other meanings of the planets.
However, it is not only science that teaches us about the planets. Astrology also uses the planets, including the Sun and the Moon, in many ways. For one, in the ancient years with our ancestors, the planets and the Sun and Moon were used to predict good harvests, productivity, and also calamities and famine. And today, these are used in horoscopes or in foretelling one’s future.
Horoscopes, especially the free horoscopes, are very popular since time immemorial. People use it to guide their lives in making the right decisions. In some other cases, people use horoscope and astrology just for the thrill and fun of knowing or having an idea of what their future holds. So in order for us to really appreciate astrology and horoscope, let us try first to understand the meanings of the planets; the Sun and Moon included.
The Sun is basically the giver of light and life. It represents the person’s true self, who one strives to be, and how one shines. Without it, a person would be living behind somebody else’s shadow. There would be no drive or direction since the sun shows the person’s identity, pride, and self-confidence.
If the Sun rules one’s day, the Moon rules one’s night. The moon rules everything that is hidden in a person. It represents one’s emotions, needs, and habits. People who have a strong moon in them are more inclined into taking care and protecting the people around them.
Mercury represents youth. Mercury rules our dealings and communication may it be written or spoken. It also rules the language that is concealed like one’s ideas, feelings, private thoughts, and opinions.
Venus represents femininity and, therefore, rules love, desire, and pleasure. Venus allows one to experience joy and lust and one’s sexuality. When one is attracted to a certain thing or person, Venus tells the person how to get it.
Mars represents aggression. It is action-oriented that it allows one to fight back when under attack. It is the opposite of Venus making it the masculine energy.
Jupiter represents money, finances, wealth, and material gain. It also rules justice and loyalty and provides faith, wisdom, and optimism.
Saturn has always been seen as evil as it represents all the limitations, separations, and death to life. It represents maturity and old age. However, it really does not set limitations. It only teaches limitation and responsibility.
Uranus is the rule breaker. It does not conform. Furthermore, it represents freedom and independence. Uranus breaks all rules no matter what consequence may arise out of it. It has the ability to surprise one of the things that a person can actually do.
Neptune has two faces. One is illusion while the other is disillusion. It governs escapism, dreams, trance, alcohol, and drugs.
Pluto rules sexual maturity and puberty. It also represents medicine and healing including the reproductive organ.
These meanings will guide a person in understanding his horoscope. But then again, horoscope should only remain as guides and never the decision maker of one’s life.
